Juan Manuel Correa in ‘critical but stable’ condition after F2 crash

Juan Manuel Correa is at a’critical but stable’ condition in hospital after complications arising out of his accident in last weekend race in Spa.
The 20-year-old’s parents issued a statement saying that their child had been under ECMO assistance at hospital in London and in an induced coma.
“On his arrival into London, Juan Manuel was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. That is an injury considered common in high impact accidents such as this one,” read an announcement.
“Unfortunately, this injury caused Juan Manuel falling to Severe Respiratory Failure. Juan Manuel is in an Intensive Care Unit that specializes in injuries.
“At this point of time he’s an in endangered state of unconsciousness and beneath ECMO support. Juan Manuel is in critical but stable condition.
“We’re convinced that our child will probably surprise us as he always does with his tremendous fighting will and strength and will recover completely.”
The family asked for their privacy.
Correa suffered injuries after an accident at the F2 feature race in Spa to his legs and back. Fellow motorist Anthoine Hubert died after injuries.
“Maria and I want to have this opportunity to present our condolences to the Hubert family for their loss,” said Juan Carlos Correa. “Our hearts are broken, and now we can just imagine the pain this loss has brought them.”
Before being transfered to Britain correa underwent surgery following the accident on his injuries in hospital at Liege, Belgium.
F2 yields this weekend in Italy, using Briton Callum Illott taking a maiden pole for Saturday’s feature race.
“I’m really happy we turned that negative energy from last weekend to some positive outcome, and performing this for Anthoine, for Juan, and also for both their own families,” said Illott, 20.
“I think everyone as a whole, moving back out as a F2 grid and putting on a good outcome, with nothing bad after past weekend, was a very great achievement by everybody.
“To turn up, still be positive and keep moving is unbelievable I presume.”
