accident.
The

Manor
alum—who
starred
on
the
TLC
dating
show’s
first
season—was
recently
involved
in
a
“serious
scooter
accident”
that
left
him
with
bleeding
on
his
brain
and
multiple
facial
injuries,
his
mom
Kelle
Mortensen
shared
in
a
heartfelt
plea
for
donations
to
assist
with
medical
expenses.
“I’m
reaching
out
to
you
today
with
a
heavy
heart,”
she
wrote
on
a
GoFundMe
page.
“This
tragic
event
has
resulted
in
significant
complications
that
will
require
him
to
undergo
multiple
facial
reconstruction
surgeries.”
Facial
reconstruction
typically
involves
the
use
of
a
person’s
skin,
bone
or
muscle
from
other
parts
of
their
body
to
rebuild
their
facial
features,
according
to
Johns
Hopkins
Medicine.
The
mother
of
six—who
appeared
alongside
her
son
on
the
series
and
returned
for
its
second
season
in
a
surprise
twist—said
Joey
already
underwent
a
three-hour
surgery
on
Oct.
19
and
“is
facing
a
long
and
challenging
road
to
recovery,”
which
includes
being
placed
on
a
liquid
diet
for
six
weeks
as
well
as
physical
and
occupational
therapy.
