Padres vs. Phillies MLB Pick – August 16th

In what was the largest win for the Philadelphia Phillies this year, Bryce Harper blasted a grand slam to get a walk-off win from the Cubs on Thursday night. The bases were loaded with two outs and the stage has been set for Bryce to be the protagonist. It was a no doubter when it left his bat and each of the Cubs could do is watch still another winnable game in innings enter the bathroom.
Pedro Strop was triggered by the IL to allow him break following a demanding stretch. Last night it had been exactly the same as previously for Strop. He allowed two earned runs without recording an out, then left Derek Holland at a challenging circumstance. I really don’t know how many more blown off games the Cubs will get away with and still go to the postseason.
With the win, the Phillies dealt the Cubs a sweep from that three-game series. That is exactly what the Phillies had to create some much needed momentum. Going within that series, the Phillies were 1-5 in their previous six games. Butif they follow up the success they had against the Cubs having a dud, then the frustration will begin all over again to the Phillies. It’s been that kind of year to get them, however, the best sign to these is that Bryce Harper appears to be finding his stroke today. That is bad news for everybody else who’s in the National League wildcard hunt.
The Phillies remain home over the weekend, because they welcome the Padres to Citizens Bank Park to get a three-game series. Philadelphia will soon be on the road in Boston and Miami after this weekend. Vince Velasquez will find the starting call to the Phillies, although Chris Paddack is expected for the visiting Padres on Friday night. Head under for our free Padres vs. Phillies select.

Chris Paddack was exactly what the Padres were searching for this year. Regrettably, it is not the only thing which the Padres needed to get over the hump and become a postseason team. With little depth in their pitching staff along with a cold and hot offense, the Padres haven’t been able to sniff the top of the NL West. Playing in the exact identical division as the Dodgers has got something to do with this, but does a list of 56-64. The wildcard was up for grabs along with the Padres faded off while some began to play better baseball.
Paddack enters Philadelphia with the ERA of 3.26 and 0.93 WHIP. That’s wonderful for any pitcher and also unique for a rookie. He has made only 20 begins in his major league career, but Paddack chose it up pretty quickly. With 9 runs allowed in his previous 10 innings, I would say he has seen better times, however. Paddack goes into this one with a 5.87 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in his past three outings.
Also remember he hasn’t been so great on the street. He owns a 3.95 ERA in 57 innings as a tourist. It’s easy to discern the reason why this is occurring for Paddack. Petco Park is among the most pitcher friendly parks . There he has allowed only 6 home runs. However, on the road that number doubles to 12 extended chunks afforded. The Phillies are hitting .308 from 26 at-bats from Paddack. Bryce Harper is hitting against .667 in 1 game against him.
Conversely, the Padres have listed just 2 strikes against Vince Velasquez. Back in 24 at-bats, the Padres are hitting 0.83 without the runs on him. He had been prominent at a 5-0 win over the Padres last season. Velasquez has been pitching well recently too. In his previous four outings, he has not allowed more than 4 runs and gave up more than 2 runs only once. With an enthusiastic home crowd in both sides, expect the Phillies to notch a win in the series opener from the Padres.
